Suck Responsibly
So, as many of you probably realized, I have become a full-blown environmentalist.
I have started easing away from eating milk chocolate bars and meat. Last night I had tofu instead of chicken for dinner. I only eat vegan dark chocolate now. Oat milk is amazing. These small steps make me feel like I’m really impacting the planet.
But,
it’s not enough.
It’s difficult to save animals’ lives and preserve Earth’s waters by making a huge dietary change, especially when so many people everyday damage and pollute the environments I am trying to preserve.
Did you know that 500 million plastic straws are used every day?
Did you also know that these straws take up to 100 years to decompose…and even THEN, the plastic never truly goes away? All plastic that has ended up in our oceans is still there. Much of it is smaller and a “micro-plastic” now. Micro-plastics are consumed by the marine life many people eat. Plastic is made from fossil fuels and contains toxins that we are allowing to enter our own systems by allowing it to enter our oceans. When will we learn that everything comes full circle?
I recently became a brand ambassador for the company FinalStraw. Basically, it is a company that sells gorgeous folding metal straws, and each straw comes with a carrying case and squeegee.
Their mission is “to create reusable, responsibly made, badass products that reduce the need for plastics, empower individuals to change their buying habits, and raise awareness of the impacts of our everyday decisions.”
The average person uses 1.6 straws every day. Plastic straws SUCK, but you don’t have to.
If you absolutely must use a straw (I get it, the smoothie DOES happen to taste better through one), then choose to #SuckResponsibly with a metal straw.
Be a zero-waste person by taking a step in the right direction. If you choose to have a fancy, foldable one that is BPA-free and made with the highest care/quality, then I’d recommend Final Straw. For 20% off of your Final Straw purchase, use my code “JoannaL”.
I’d like to clarify, this post is NOT an ad. It’s an opportunity to reduce your carbon footprint, and I can help you spend less on a cool product.
I really don’t care if you buy from Final Straw or not. Just please, avoid using plastic.
Best,
Joanna
