The TikTok Affirmation Worked for Me
Okay, so I’m sure by now you have heard of the “I do not chase, I attract. What is meant for me will simply find me” viral affirmation. The video went viral and hundreds (if not thousands) of TikTok users started sharing their experiences with saying the affirmation daily to themselves.
After spending several months (May-late August) without much luck finding the first apartment of my dreams, I decided to test if this affirmation was legitimate (I was desperate). So, I began speaking it out loud and writing it down…in a journal. That’s right, I started JOURNALING (more on this later). 10-13 days later, my application for a studio in a luxury building was approved. However, it was much more than just the affirmation that allowed this to happen.
I realized I needed a mindset shift. One from passive entitlement to determined assertiveness. I communicated with real estate brokers and agents every day, called buildings directly, and started to shift from “I won’t find an apartment in time” to “the right apartment will become available to me soon.” Again, more on this apartment hunting process and tips on how to navigate your own NYC apartment hunt in a later post.
Regardless, this affirmation worked for me. Maybe not in the way you think, in which I simply say the affirmation passively and move on with my day while hoping for the best. I had to truly believe in the affirmation, force myself to say it with positive energy, and let the affirmation guide my actions to support it. I started journaling, praying, and writing down my positive thoughts and gratitudes. Eventually, things started falling into place again.
ALIGN YOUR ENERGY AND MINDSET WITH WHERE YOU WANT TO BE.
I realized that in order for me to feel the happiness and gratitude mindset I aspired to be in, I needed to force myself to be there NOW. My advice to anyone reading this is to use the affirmations, and go beyond them. Use them as a starting point–a trampoline that sends you into a higher wavelength you aspire to reach. Affirmations work because they begin to alter our mindset. We eventually convince ourselves that the affirmations are true, will be true, and continue to hold true. Fake it ‘til you make it. Become who you want to be today. Hopefully that makes sense. Good luck!
